Salary to Hourly Rate Calculator
Convert annual salary into a simple hourly equivalent. Adjust the workweek and paid weeks so you can compare offers or understand the wage portion of a salaried role.
Calculate with assumptions you can explain.
The hourly equivalent is useful for comparison, but salary and freelance revenue are not interchangeable. Employment may include paid leave, insurance, retirement contributions, equipment and employer-paid taxes.
- 01Enter the annual gross salary before tax and deductions.
- 02Use the number of hours you actually expect to work in a typical week.
- 03Use paid weeks for a wage equivalent; use working weeks for capacity planning.
- 04Compare benefits and employment costs separately before making a decision.
Salary to hourly FAQ
Does salary to hourly include benefits?
No. The calculator converts salary only. Health coverage, paid time off, retirement contributions, bonuses and equipment can materially change total compensation.
Should overtime hours be included?
For a realistic comparison, use the hours you normally work. Legal overtime pay rules vary by location and are not calculated here.
Can I use this as my freelance rate?
Not directly. A freelancer must also cover business costs, unpaid time, benefits and taxes. Use the freelance hourly rate calculator for that purpose.
